Yervoy Indications

People who have late-stage melanoma skin cancer may be able to extend survival using Yervoy™ (ipilimumab). Approved uses, or indications, for Yervoy are specifically for the treatment of advanced melanoma that has spread to other areas of the body or that cannot be treated with surgery. This prescription drug is only approved for adults age 18 and older.

Yervoy is a synthetic version of a certain protein called an antibody. It works by binding to certain substances in the body, called antigens, boosting the immune system's ability to produce more white blood cells called T cells. These T cells help to protect the body against disease by destroying infected cells, including cancer cells. As a result, Yervoy can help slow down the progression of cancer cells and extend survival time.
