Skin Cancer Information

The most common form of cancer in the United States, skin cancer is a disease that begins in the outer layer of skin (the epidermis). Common symptoms include:

  • A sore that does not heal
  • A rough, red, pink, or brown; raised; scaly patch on the skin
  • Areas on the skin that are similar to a scar and firm to the touch.

It should be noted that not all changes in the skin are necessarily a sign of skin cancer. However, it's still a good idea to consult your healthcare provider if you notice changes. Some types of this cancer are curable, typically through surgery.
