The stages of Merkel cell carcinoma include:
 
  • Stage I
  • Stage II
  • Stage III
  • Recurrent.
 
Treatment for Stage I Merkel Cell Carcinoma
Treatment for stage I Merkel cell carcinoma may include:
 
  • Surgery alone
  • Surgery followed by radiation therapy to the tumor site and regional lymph nodes
  • Surgery, with or without radiation therapy, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy.
     
Treatment for Stage II Merkel Cell Carcinoma
Treatment for stage II Merkel cell carcinoma may include:
 
  • Surgery alone
  • Surgery followed by radiation therapy to the tumor site and regional lymph nodes

  • Surgery followed by radiation therapy to the tumor site and regional lymph nodes
  • Surgery, with or without radiation therapy, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy.
