When used for treating certain types of skin cancer, the dosage of Aldara® (imiquimod cream) will primarily depend on the particular condition being treated and whether you develop severe skin reactions.
For treating precancerous skin lesions called actinic keratosis, the standard recommended Aldara dosage is one packet applied to the treatment area twice a week before bedtime for 16 weeks.
When treating a type of skin cancer called superficial basal cell carcinoma, apply Aldara five times a week before bedtime for six weeks.
It is usually recommended to apply Aldara at bedtime, leave it on for about eight hours, and then wash it off. If your dosage does not use up an entire package, you should not save the remainder for later. You might have to temporarily stop using the cream if severe skin reactions occur.
