When treating melanoma or Hodgkin's lymphoma with DTIC-Dome, the recommended dosage will depend on how much you weigh, the reason you are using it, and how you respond to the medication. This prescription chemotherapy drug comes in the form of an injection that is given intravenously (by IV). It is usually given 5 to 10 days in a row, followed by a break in treatment.
The dosage of DTIC-Dome® (dacarbazine) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your weight and possibly height
- The reason you are using it
- How you respond to and tolerate the medication
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
The usual recommended dose of DTIC-Dome for treating melanoma (skin cancer) is 2 to 4.5 mg per kg body weight (about 0.09 to 2.04 mg per lb) once a day for 10 days. This dose may be repeated every four weeks.
Alternately, your healthcare provider may recommend a dosage based on your body surface area, which is normally calculated using your height and weight. Doses based on body surface area are expressed as mg per meter squared (mg per m2). The usual recommended dose of DTIC-Dome based on body surface area is 250 mg per m2 daily for 5 days. This dose may be repeated every three weeks.
The usual recommended dose of DTIC-Dome for treating Hodgkin's disease is 150 mg per m2 daily for 5 days. This dose may be repeated every four weeks.
An alternate dosage that may be recommended for the treatment of Hodgkin's disease is 375 mg per m2 given every 15 days. When used to treat Hodgkin's lymphoma, DTIC-Dome is used in combination with other medicines, regardless of the amount used.
