An Introduction to Dosing With Aldara
The dose of Aldara®
cream) your healthcare provider recommends will largely depend on what condition is being treated and whether you develop severe skin reactions. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Recommended Aldara Dosage for Actinic Keratosis
The standard recommended Aldara dosage for actinic keratosis treatment is one packet applied to the treatment area twice a week before bedtime for 16 weeks. A "treatment area" is a single area of about 25 square centimeters (an area about 2 inches by 2 inches) on the face, scalp, or one cheek. If you have more skin to treat, this should usually be done in separate treatment cycles. Apply the cream at bedtime, leave it on for about eight hours, and then wash it off.
Recommended Aldara Dosage for Genital or Perianal Warts
The standard dose of Aldara for treating external genital warts
or external perianal warts is a thin layer applied before bedtime three times a week until the warts are gone, up to a maximum of 16 weeks. Women should be careful to not get any of the medication inside the vagina, as vaginal tissue is too delicate for this medication. Apply it at bedtime, leave it on for 6 to 10 hours, and then wash it off in the morning.
Each packet is enough to cover about 20 square centimeters of skin. If you are treating a smaller area, you will use less than a full packet.
