Aldara Cream for Warts
Available by prescription only, Aldara® (imiquimod cream) is a medication approved for the treatment of certain skin conditions, including external genital warts and perianal warts in people age 12 and older.
Aldara comes in the form of a cream that is applied to the skin. Research has shown that more people using Aldara had a complete disappearance of their warts, compared to people using a cream that did not contain any active ingredients (a placebo).
There may also be times when a healthcare provider may prescribe Aldara cream for other types of warts. However, this is an unapproved, or "off-label," use of the medicine.
(Click Aldara Uses for a more in-depth look at using Aldara cream for the treatment of warts. This article explains how this drug works, whether it's safe for use in children, and other possible unapproved uses.)
